RTL Radio Deutschland takes over 105.5 Spreeradio 100 per cent
The Berlin-Brandenburg Media Authority (MABB) has announced that it is awarding the radio station a seven-year broadcasting licence for the VHF frequency 105.5 MHz, with RTL Radio Deutschland as the operator's sole shareholder.

Gert Zimmer, CEO of RTL Radio Deutschland, said: "We're delighted about the licence awarded to 105.5 Spreeradio. This decision will guarantee that listeners in Berlin and Brandenburg still have access to high-quality programmes. Furthermore, the changed shareholder structure will strengthen 105.5 Spreeradio as it braces itself to face imminent challenges in the analogue and digital domains. The MABB's clear avowal of the sense in building broadcasting families is also indicative of the future ahead of radio as a medium. Media authorities in other German federal states must now take their lead from the decision reached in Berlin, for programme-makers will only succeed in introducing digital radio successfully if the analogue radio market is strong".

The re-awarding of the broadcasting licence was mandatory after RTL Radio Deutschland GmbH declared its intention of increasing its 33.84 per cent stake to 100 per cent, as no such increase was possible under the terms of the originally awarded broadcasting licence.
