Furthermore, the changed shareholder structure will strengthen 105.5 Spreeradio as it braces itself to face imminent challenges in the analogue and digital domains. The MABB's clear avowal of the sense in building broadcasting families is also indicative of the future ahead of radio as a medium. Media authorities in other German federal states must now take their lead from the decision reached in Berlin, for programme-makers will only succeed in introducing digital radio successfully if the analogue radio market is strong".

The re-awarding of the broadcasting licence was mandatory after RTL Radio Deutschland GmbH declared its intention of increasing its 33.84 per cent stake to 100 per cent, as no such increase was possible under the terms of the originally awarded broadcasting licence.
